About Sprawl Design

Hi, I'm Omar, the founder of Sprawl Design. I was born and raised in Mexico, where I developed a deep appreciation for family, community, and hard work. These values have shaped my approach to business and my commitment to providing exceptional service to our clients.

My journey in the world of drafting began with a spark of interest in engineering during my childhood. After  studying at a Computer Drafting technical schoo, I took my first steps into the field, working on everything from electronics to architectural plans. While my initial goal was to become a civil engineer, life led me on some unexpected adventures, including a stint in the North Dakota oil fields.

My experience working in North Dakota provided invaluable lessons on goal setting, perseverance, and the value of hard work. Enduring extreme weather conditions, including temperatures as low as -50°F, and long, demanding workdays, shaped my

character and instilled a deep appreciation for the rewards of dedication. This challenging period served as a pivotal point in my life, transforming me into a more focused and determined individual

Throughout my career, I've always valued stability and the opportunity to spend quality time with my family. This desire led me back to drafting, a field where I could utilize my existing skills and create a flexible work schedule. Sprawl Design was born from this vision, and together with my partner Angel, we've built the company from the ground up.

Garage Conversions

We transform garages into affordable apartments so homeowners can rent them out and make passive income. 

 

We work with people that are unsure of how the whole process works, have no idea how much it would cost, and are unsure how to fund the project. 

 

Our goal is to help you create a design that maximizes the use of available space, to educate the client about project timelines, and to use our experience to design in order to avoid extra fees and keep costs down!

 

Some average numbers for a garage conversion are a cost of $103,000, rents for $2,000 a month, and pays for itself in around 5.5 years! (when construction is paid in cash).

We create affordable housing units that homeowners can rent out or use as housing for their families.

Our Process

From concept to completion, we provide a seamless experience. Our team will guide you through design, permitting, construction, and final delivery, ensuring your project meets your vision and exceeds your expectations.

1. Consultation & Site Visit

We will talk on the phone to learn about your project, budget, and timeline. After this, our field Senior Designer will visit your property to talk more about ideas, process, and approximate costs.

2. Work Agreement

We will create a Work Agreement with cost, deliverables, and timeline. You will review it, and sign it. Following this step, your initial payment will be due.

3. Site Visit & Preliminary Design

Once the initial payment has been received, our field Senior Designer will visit your property to take measurements and pictures. With this we will create a preliminary design for you to review and approve

4. Plans

After you approve the preliminary design, we will finalize the floor plan and create the Sheet Set that will be submitted to the pertinent jurisdiction for permit approval.

5. Permits

We will submit plans to the pertinent jurisdiction, and work with you through the permit process. You will pay any city/county invoices and any remaining fees at this point.

6. Plan Completion

We will deliver you the approved plans and collect the final payment. Now your ADU is ready to be built!

7. Construction

If you’re interested, we can connect you with one of our trusted contractors. They will use our plans to construct your ADU and get it ready for use as quickly as possible.

8. Duration

From Start to Finish, the whole process takes anywhere from 6 to 12 months, depending on the City/County.
